Matamata Dramatic Society has a long history of entertaining Matamata residents. 

For 78 years, they have been producing plays, one act festivals and Short & Sweet competitions. As there is no cinema in Matamata, once a month the theatre runs Friday Flicks movie evenings. 

Local comedy troupe, The Improvables, put on six shows each year – evenings of wacky, unscripted, improvised comedy. In addition, the theatre stages three shows per year.
